The denomination '50 Pf.' and the town name 'LANGENSALZA' are set in bold letterpress at the upper left and upper right respectively, with the battle date '27. JUNI 1866' beneath. The artist's signature 'A. LEUSCH' appears in small print at the lower left margin. |

Langensalza's 1921 Notgeld series was designed by A. Leusch and commemorates the Battle of Langensalza — the 1866 engagement in which Hanoverian forces defeated a Prussian advance guard, only to surrender three days later when the main Prussian army arrived. The Hanoverians won the battle and lost the war in the same week. It was the last significant action fought by the independent Kingdom of Hanover before annexation.
Notgeld of this type was produced as much for collectors as for circulation, a practice well established by 1921.
