Comments

Mühlhausen issued this note as part of a deliberate historical archive series — the city was leaning hard into its identity as a site of the 1525 Peasants' War and its tangled later history during the Thirty Years' War. "Tilly" here references Johann Tserclaes, Count of Tilly, the Imperial commander whose forces occupied and partially burned Mühlhausen in 1626. Local Notgeld series frequently used such history as a point of civic pride, but the Mühlhausen issues are unusually specific in their references.

Chr. Gerlach printed the entire series locally. M. E. Beyrer's designer credit is documented but otherwise little recorded.
