Amtssparkasse zu Osterholz was a district savings bank in what is now Osterholz-Scharmbeck, a small administrative center north of Bremen. Like hundreds of similar municipal and savings institutions across Germany, it issued Notgeld during the acute small-change shortage of 1921 — a period when coin metal was being hoarded and the Reichsbank could not keep fractional denominations in circulation. Casten & Suhling handled a considerable volume of Bremen-area Notgeld printing during these years.
The Grabosch reference O29.3b and Verbandskatalog 5450.05.11 indicate this is a catalogued variety, suggesting at least minor distinguishing characteristics across the series — likely in stamp color or serial placement.
