| Reverse lettering | HAUS ZUM BERG PORTA WESTFALICA 1390. Eroberung und Ausplünderung der Burg zu Hausberge durch die Ritter von Kappel und Vinke; Pfingsten 1390. 1549 fällt der Graf Otto von Schaumburg in das Amt Hausberge, besetzt die Dörfer Lerbeck und Neesen, plündert die Häuser aus und führt 39 gefangene Bauern mit sich fort. 1625 bezieht im 30 jährigen Kriege General Tilly in Hausberge u. Umgegend Quartier; er hatte bei Neesen eine Brücke über die Weser geschlagen und war vom Westen her über dieselbe in diese Gegend gekommen. 1640. Der schwedische General Banner liegt hier in Quartier. 1647. Der schwedische General Königsmark in Hausberge. Als er mit seiner Gemahlin und großem Gefolge hier eintraf wurden ihm von der Gemeinde zwei Lämmer geschenkt. B·NR. |

Hausberge an der Porta is a small town at the Porta Westfalica gap — the point where the Weser cuts through the Teutoburg Forest ridge — and the Amts-Sparkasse there was a district savings institution rather than a municipal bank. In 1921, with the Reichsmark system already buckling under postwar inflation, local Sparkassen across Westphalia began issuing their own Kleingeld-Ersatz to keep commerce moving when small coin simply vanished from circulation.
J. & C. Meyer in Bad Oeynhausen, just a few kilometers east, printed this series — a short-distance commission typical of Westphalian Notgeld production, where proximity kept costs and delivery times manageable.
