Denomination numerals '50 Pfg' appear at upper left and 'Pfg 50' at upper right, flanking a central gilt ribbon banner inscribed in Frisian dialect with the dates 1872 and 1922 at either end. Two vignettes flank a cloud-shaped central cartouche: at left, a stack of gold coins rendered in yellow, and at right, a bundle of banknotes in grey-blue; the cartouche bears a four-line Frisian verse in cursive script. Sylt's Allgemeine Spar- und Leihkasse issued this note during the early Weimar inflation emergency, when municipal and cooperative bodies across Germany stepped in to fill the void left by a chronic shortage of small-denomination coinage. The printer, Buchdruckerei Carl Meyer, was a local Westerland operation — Notgeld of this kind was typically designed and produced close to home, with security features modest by national standards. The watermark here is notable given the scale of the issuer; most Sylt Notgeld from this period dispensed with such measures entirely.
