Additional information

Algringen — the German name for Algrange — issued notgeld through the early 1920s when the town's administrative status was itself in flux. The territory had reverted to France after 1918, but the German-speaking industrial community around the local ironworks still operated within a transitional economic zone where small-denomination coinage remained chronically short. Zinc was the material of necessity, not preference; copper and nickel had been consumed by the war years before.
