Obverse description Central field displays the municipal arms of Ahlen: a shield bearing a stylized serpent or dragon coiled upon itself, surmounted by a mural crown with three towers, rendered in low relief. The legend STADT AHLEN is arranged in an arc around the shield, reading from lower left to lower right, with dot separators flanking the text. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border running along the coin's periphery. The heraldic composition is executed in a simple, utilitarian style consistent with wartime Notgeld production.
