Dippoldiswalde is a small administrative district in Saxony, and like hundreds of German municipalities it issued Notgeld during the acute small-change shortage that followed the First World War. The Bezirksverband — the district association rather than a municipal treasury — was the issuing body, which places this note in the early emergency phase rather than the later collector-targeted "Serienscheine" wave of 1921–22.
At 50 × 40 mm, this is among the smallest paper Notgeld produced, consistent with issues intended for rapid hand-to-hand use rather than display.
