Roßbach is a small village in the Querfurt district of Saxony-Anhalt, and like hundreds of similarly modest German municipalities, it issued Notgeld during the postwar currency shortages of 1918–1922 when small-denomination coins essentially vanished from circulation. The Hofdruckerei Gerth & Oppenrieder in Gera was a prolific provincial printer of such emergency issues — not a prestige house, but competent and reliable, handling commissions from dozens of Thuringian and Saxon communities simultaneously.
Designer credit to C. Jacob is more than most small-commune Notgeld carries.
