正面描述 The left panel carries a bold black vignette of the Jülich municipal coat of arms — a towered fortified gateway with a lion passant — beneath which the legend STADT JÜLICH · 1917 · appears in block lettering. A vertical side inscription reads GÜLTIG BIS 31. JANUAR 1919. The central field, set against a fine rose guilloche underprint, bears the denomination in large Gothic blackletter script reading Fünfzig Pfennig, flanked by the issuing text Gutschein zur Entnahme von Waren im Werte von above and in städtischen Verkaufsstellen below, with the date Jülich, den 16. April 1917 and a manuscript Bürgermeister signature at lower right; the numeral 50 appears in a framed box at upper right. A red typeset serial number is printed on a pale rectangular panel at the foot of the note.

备注

Jülich's 1917 Notgeld issue belongs to the earliest wave of German municipal emergency currency — the Reich had suspended convertibility and coin was vanishing from circulation almost immediately after the war began. By 1917 the Reichsbank was supplying virtually no small-denomination coin to civilian markets, forcing hundreds of municipalities to print their own stopgap paper. Jülich, a small Rhenish garrison town sitting on the Roer, was no exception.

Locally printed Notgeld from this period often shows inconsistent ink distribution and thin paper stock — a consequence of wartime supply constraints on printers who were not, in ordinary times, in the banknote business.
