| 表面の説明 | The obverse is printed in orange, grey-blue, brown-red and black on plain paper, with an all-over diamond lattice guilloche underprint forming the border field. A central oval vignette in black letterpress depicts the Kiel market square in 1848, with a church steeple to the left and an arcaded civic building to the right, figures in period dress animating the foreground. The denomination '50 PF.' appears in cartouches to the left and right of the vignette, while a bold banner at the lower centre carries the legend 'GEMEINDE SÜDERBRARUP'; the inscription 'Gutschein über fünfzig Pfennig' runs across the top of the note. |

Süderbrarup is a small market town in Schleswig-Holstein, and its 1920 notgeld issue appeared during the period when the territory's political future was still being settled — the Schleswig plebiscites of February and March 1920 divided the region between Germany and Denmark along lines that left communities like Süderbrarup firmly within the German remainder zone. Municipal notgeld from this area carries that background quietly, issued by local authorities filling a coin shortage while the border question was still raw.
Paper notgeld from small Schleswig municipalities tends to survive in higher grades than its circulation history would suggest — many were collected from the outset rather than spent.
