Obverse description Printed in dark brown and grey on cream paper, the obverse carries the issuer title 'Gutschein von Neustadt i. Holstein' within a decorative typeset header at top, with the city arms in an ornate cartouche at upper centre flanked by two columns of Low German verse. The central vignette, captioned 'Der Löwe von Dänemark', presents a satirical allegorical scene in which a soldier pulls a lion by the tail away from two boundary stones inscribed 'Dänemark' and 'Schleswig-Holstein', alluding to the post-WWI Schleswig plebiscite. The denomination '50 PFENNIG' appears in bold at the left and right margins, with the validity inscription 'Gültig bis 31. Juli 1921.' and two facsimile signatures positioned below the vignette.

Reverse description The reverse is printed on a vivid yellow ground with dark brown letterpress text and grey-green foliate ornamental borders framing the entire composition. A large central oval vignette presents a panoramic townscape of Neustadt in Holstein, with the tall spire of the Stadtkirche rising above rooftops and trees, captioned 'Neustadt in Holstein' above the scene. The denomination numeral '50' appears in a dark cartouche at lower left and 'PF.' at lower right, with a two-line Low German couplet and a serial number preceded by 'No' printed below the vignette.
