Opmerkingen

Freienohl is a small village in the Sauerland district of Westphalia — the kind of municipality whose wartime Notgeld issues were printed in tiny quantities for purely local use, often redeemed and destroyed within months. The Gemeindekasse, the communal treasury, acted as issuer by necessity rather than authority, filling the coin shortage that paralyzed small transactions across Germany from 1916 onward.

Provincial Notgeld of this type was rarely preserved in quantity. Survivors tend to come from collector redemption rounds conducted in 1922, not from actual circulation.
