Tangstedt bei Pinneberg is a small rural commune in Holstein, and its decision to issue notgeld in 1921 places this squarely in the second wave of German emergency money — by that point less a response to genuine coin shortage than a cottage industry driven by collector demand. Municipalities across Germany had learned that philatelists and notgeld enthusiasts would buy series outright, turning local scrip into a modest revenue stream that never needed to circulate at all.
Whether this particular piece saw any actual use in trade is, for most surviving examples, genuinely unknowable.
