Lübz is a small town in Mecklenburg, and like hundreds of German municipalities it resorted to issuing its own emergency small change — Kleingeldscheine — during the acute coin shortage that gripped Germany after the First World War. These locally authorized notes filled the gap left by hoarded metal currency, and their legal standing was always provisional: the Reichsbank tolerated them until the stabilization period made them redundant.
Richard Zschêked's involvement as designer is the one distinguishing detail here. His name appears on several Mecklenburg notgeld issues, suggesting a regional commercial artist contracted across multiple municipalities rather than any single civic commission.
