Eilenburg's 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the second wave of German municipal emergency money — by this point, the Reichsbank's coin shortage had been chronic for years and hundreds of towns were printing their own fractional notes to keep local commerce moving. Eilenburg, a small Saxon industrial town on the Mulde, was entirely typical in this respect.
A. Dickert's designer credit is relatively rare in Notgeld documentation — most small municipal issues went uncredited. Whether Dickert was a local commercial artist or a Leipzig print trade professional is not currently established in the literature.
