Röhrigshöfe is a small village in Thuringia, and its 50 Pfennig notgeld belongs to the vast wave of municipal emergency money issued across Germany between roughly 1916 and 1922, when coin shortages drove even the most obscure parishes to commission their own scrip. The Werbeverlag A.G. in Bremen was a commercial advertising and printing house that took on notgeld contracts during this period — not a specialist security printer — which is characteristic of the smaller-denomination issues where fraud risk was considered negligible.
G. Hoffmann as designer credit appears on several Werbeverlag-produced notgeld pieces from this run.
