| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in black and ochre on cream paper, with a bold geometric underprint of interlocking diamond and triangular lattice patterns filling the central field. Bleckede is a small market town on the Elbe in Lower Saxony, and like hundreds of similar municipalities it resorted to emergency Kleingeld during the coin shortages of the First World War. The Magistrat — the local administrative body — commissioned Gebrüder Jänecke of Hannover, a well-established printing house with a long history in commercial and municipal work, to produce this 50 Pfennig Notgeld. Jänecke's involvement signals a degree of institutional care; many comparable issues were printed on far more improvised equipment.
The term "Flecken" in the issuer name is a specific legal designation in Lower Saxon administrative tradition, denoting a settlement with market rights but below full town status.
