Obverse description A caricature vignette at left portrays a bearded town crier in profile, wearing a peaked cap and carrying a pole, reading from a large unfurled scroll inscribed with a local dialect verse. To the right, the denomination '50' is printed in large red numerals above the inscription 'PFENNIG', with the place-name 'CALCAR i.J. 1922' and the legend 'DER BÜRGERMEISTER:' below, accompanied by a facsimile signature and a red circular city seal bearing the municipal arms at the lower centre. A fine crosshatch guilloche underprint covers the entire field.

The denomination '50 Pf.' appears in red at both upper corners flanking the inscription 'Notgeld der Stadt Calcar. Pf.' across the top. A two-part motto in German runs along the lower margin.
