Bützow's 1922 notgeld issue is one of hundreds of German municipal emergency notes from the hyperinflationary period, but Egon Tschiron's involvement is worth noting — he was a professional commercial artist active in Mecklenburg whose work appears across several northern German notgeld series, giving these small civic issues a higher degree of finish than the purely utilitarian municipal printings produced elsewhere.

The Stadt Bützow series was authorized under the same broad emergency currency framework that allowed German municipalities to fill the coin vacuum created by metal hoarding and Reichsbank supply failures. By mid-1922, the inflationary spiral was accelerating fast enough that 50 Pfennig notes issued in spring could be functionally worthless within months.
