Pritzwalk is a small Brandenburg market town, and like hundreds of similar municipalities across Weimar Germany, its Stadthauptkasse — the municipal treasury — issued Notgeld in 1922 to address the chronic small-change shortage that preceded the hyperinflationary collapse. These local emergency issues were authorized under a patchwork of regional agreements rather than any single national statute, which is why denominations, designs, and print runs varied so dramatically from one town to the next.
The DeNG reference places this within a numbered series of ten notes (1/10), suggesting the Pritzwalk issue was part of a deliberately sequenced collector set — a practice that became increasingly common in 1921–22, when municipalities discovered that philatelists and collectors would pay face value or above for attractive Notgeld, effectively providing the town with interest-free credit.
