Denomination numerals '50' appear in the left and right underprint fields against a pale ochre guilloché background, with a decorative interlaced border in black and red running the full perimeter. A serial number and manuscript signature of the Bürgermeister appear at the foot of the note, with the printer's imprint along the lower margin. |

Lörrach sits on the Swiss and French borders, and the hyperinflationary pressures of 1922 hit Baden's smaller municipalities hard enough that local councils were forced into emergency currency production well before the crisis peaked in 1923. This Notgeld issue was printed by Poppen & Ortmann in Freiburg, a regional firm that handled a substantial volume of Baden municipal emergency notes during this period — not a prestige printer, but reliable for small-run civic work.
The DeNG reference suggests at least four known variants in this series, likely differentiated by color or serial sequence rather than denomination changes. Designer K. Freund's involvement points to the more carefully conceived end of Notgeld production, where towns commissioned original artwork rather than pulling generic stock designs.
