Obverse description Printed in ochre and black using a flat graphic woodcut style, the obverse centres on a vignette of a full-armoured medieval knight standing beneath a rusticated stone gateway arch and bearing a shield inscribed with a Low German verse. Two oval cartouches flanking the arch each carry the denomination '50 Pfg.' in bold gothic lettering, while the heading 'Stadt Herne i/Westf. 1921' runs in decorative gothic script along the upper margin. The redemption text appears in a scroll banner at the lower left, with the date 'D. 1. Juli 1921', the issuing authority 'Der Magistrat', and the serial number at the lower right.
