Stargard in Mecklenburg — not to be confused with the larger Stargard in Pomerania — issued this Notgeld piece during the inflationary spiral of 1921, when municipal and local authorities across Germany were printing their own emergency small-change notes to compensate for the chronic coin shortage. The Bärensprungsche Hofbuchdruckerei in Schwerin was a respected regional printing house with court printer credentials, and its involvement here reflects how even minor Notgeld runs were sometimes handled by established firms rather than cheap commercial jobbers.
Mecklenburg Notgeld from this period is modestly collected but rarely commands serious premiums unless the series carries distinctive artwork or known variants.
