Comments

Weddersleben is a small village in the Harz foothills, and this 1921 emergency note is a product of the Kleingeldnot — the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany during the early Weimar inflation years. Municipalities down to the smallest rural communities were authorized to issue their own Notgeld to fill the gap left by a collapsed federal coinage system. Oscar Grupe was a regional printer in nearby Quedlinburg who handled a number of these local issues across the district.

The single authorizing signature, Rinkleben, almost certainly belonged to the Bürgermeister or a designated municipal official — no countersignature, which was typical of the smallest issuing bodies.
