Stadtlengsfeld is a small town in the Rhön highlands of Thuringia, and this note belongs to the vast wave of municipal Kleingeldersatz — small-change substitute currency — issued across Germany in 1921 as coin shortages persisted well into the postwar years. H. Stürtz in Würzburg was a respected academic press, and their involvement suggests the town commission took some care with the production rather than resorting to the cheapest available printer.
The watermarked paper is worth noting: by 1921, many Notgeld issuers had abandoned security paper entirely, making its presence here a minor distinction within the series.
