Obverse description The central vignette, rendered entirely in silhouette style, presents the façade of the Gasthaus zum Weißen Roß tavern with surrounding houses in the background and four full-length silhouette figures in the middle ground, representing Goethe and Duke Carl August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach dancing with two women — an allusion to their documented 1776 visit to the inn. Flanking the central scene are two profile portrait silhouettes, Goethe to the left and Carl August to the right. The denomination and issuing locality appear in letterpress text above and below the vignette, consistent with the artistic conventions of Weimar-era Notgeld.
Obverse lettering GASTHAUS ZUM WEISSEN ROSS. 1776. ALTES. WIRTSHAUSSCHILD. NOTGELD, Stützerbach W./A. Wert fünfzig Pfennige. Industrie= und Luftkurort.
