Gatersleben is a small agricultural village in the Harz foothills, and its 1921 Notgeld issue is modest in ambition — a local emergency scrip filling the coin shortage that plagued German small commerce throughout the early Weimar inflation years. Louis Koch of Halberstadt handled a significant volume of regional Notgeld contracts during this period, printing for dozens of municipalities across the Harz and Magdeburger Börde. The designer credit to "v. Dockhorn" appears across several Koch-printed issues from the same year, suggesting a house designer rather than a commission specific to this village.
