| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse is laid out on a cream ground framed by a dark blue geometric border with a salmon-pink scrollwork underprint. At centre stands the elaborate coat of arms of Ellrich — a quartered shield with a stag's head crest flanked by heraldic supporters — beneath a ribbon cartouche inscribed 'Ellrich am Harz.' To the left, a yellow circular vignette bears the validity disclaimer in Gothic script, while a matching yellow circle to the right carries the issue date of 1 September 1921 and three manuscript signatures of the Magistrat. The denomination '50 Pfg.' appears in bold black Gothic lettering in the lower-left and lower-right corners, with 'Gutschein' and the alphanumeric serial number centred below the arms. |

Ellrich is a small town in Thuringia, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1921, its Magistrat issued Notgeld to address the chronic small-change shortage that followed the First World War. Karl Koch in nearby Nordhausen was a regional printer who handled a significant volume of these local emergency issues — practical proximity mattered more than prestige when a municipality needed notes in a hurry.
The Graumann reference distinguishes two varieties (1a-1 and 1a-2), typically differentiated by minor typographic or paper differences detectable only on close inspection.
