Emmendingen's 1921 Notgeld issue was printed by Gebrüder Parcus of Munich, one of the more prolific Notgeld printers of the Weimar inflation period — the firm handled commissions from dozens of German municipalities simultaneously as the postwar currency crisis forced local authorities to produce their own fractional emergency money. By 1921 the Reichsmark was deteriorating rapidly, and small-denomination coins had effectively vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted. Towns like Emmendingen had little choice.

The P#337.15/6 designation places this within a numbered series, suggesting the city issued multiple denominations or design variants under the same authorization.
