Weida's 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the second wave of municipal emergency currency that flooded Thuringia as the Reichsbank's coin supply collapsed under postwar inflation pressure. The Johannes Arndt Druckerei in Jena handled a substantial volume of small-town Notgeld commissions during this period — efficient, local, and cheap, which suited cash-strapped municipalities perfectly.
