| 表面の説明 | Warm ochre-toned Notgeld issued to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Butzbach's municipal charter (1321–1921), with an oval vignette at left presenting a half-length portrait of Landgraf Phillipp von Butzbach set within an ornate black-engraved cartouche. To the centre-right, a rolled parchment scroll bears a facsimile of the 1321 charter granted by Ludwig of Bavaria on 10 August 1321, suspended below which hangs a large red wax seal bearing the city's arms. The denomination '50 Pfennig' appears in bold letterpress at lower right alongside the issue date 'Butzbach, den 6. Mai 1921' and a facsimile mayoral signature above the legend 'Der Bürgermeister'. |

Butzbach's 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the second and more commercially self-conscious wave of German emergency municipal coinage — by 1921 many towns were commissioning small-format paper scrip less out of genuine coin shortage than as a sideline revenue source, sold to the rapidly expanding collector market. Whether Butzbach's motivation was purely pragmatic or partly philatelic is unrecorded, but Scharfes Druckereien in Wetzlar handled numerous Hessian municipal commissions during this period and the regional concentration of printing work was typical of how smaller towns sourced their issues.
The Rentenmark reform of late 1923 rendered all such Pfennig-denominated scrip worthless almost simultaneously.
