Obverse description The obverse is printed in green, red, cream, and black letterpress, with the Fraktur heading "Notgeld der Stadt Buttstädt" across the top. At centre, the municipal coat of arms of Buttstädt is rendered as a red shield bearing a winged angel of justice holding a sword and scales over a rampant lion, flanked by the date 1637 and surmounted by a fleur-de-lis base shield; stone gate pillars flank the composition on either side. The denomination "50 PF-" appears in large numerals at left and right, with a scroll at lower left carrying the validity clause and two manuscript signatures below the titles "Der Gemeindevorstand" and "Der Gemeinderat", with a handwritten serial number at lower right.
