Tiefurt is not an independent town but a village directly east of Weimar, historically part of the Weimar ducal estate — the park there was a favourite retreat of Goethe and Anna Amalia. That cultural weight almost certainly explains why a settlement of this size was issuing its own notgeld at all; the Weimar-adjacent villages produced collectible series with unusual enthusiasm during the 1921 inflation wave, targeting the souvenir trade as much as genuine small-change shortages.
Wiedemannsche Druckerei in Saalfeld handled a substantial volume of Thuringian municipal notgeld during this period. The dual-signature requirement — Steinmetz and Orlamündig — was a standard municipal authorization device, though Orlamündig is a distinctly Thuringian surname worth noting.
