Ditfurt is a small village in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt, and its 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the vast wave of municipal emergency currency that flooded Germany following the coin shortages of the early Weimar period. Hundreds of communities, some with populations in the low hundreds, printed their own fractional notes when small change became genuinely impossible to find.
