Vorderseitenbeschreibung Yellow-ground note with a black dotted border. A red banner across the top carries the title inscription in Gothic blackletter. The central vignette presents a polychrome landscape view of Manebach as seen from the Elgersburg road, set within a green rectangular frame with the caption 'Manebach vom Elgersburger Wege.' in cursive script below. The denomination '50 Pfg.' appears in large Gothic numerals at left and right, each flanked by a circular green vignette enclosing a stylised fir tree. The lower margin bears the validity clause in Gothic script, the issuing authority designation, a manuscript signature, and the date 'Dez. 1921'.

Rückseitenbeschreibung Yellow-ground note with the same black dotted border as the obverse. The heading 'Der Mönchhof.' appears in an ornamental cartouche at the top centre, flanked by sprigs of pine cones in the upper corners. Two large circular green-framed vignettes dominate the field: the left medallion shows the historic Mönchhof farmhouse ('einst.') set among conifers, while the right medallion presents the modernised building ('jetzt.'), both separated by a central stone figure. The series designation 'Möndhofserie' appears at lower left, the serial number 'No. 5.' at lower right, and the denomination 'fünfzig Pfennig.' in large Gothic blackletter across a red banner at the foot.

Anmerkungen

Manebach is a small coal-mining village in the Thuringian Forest, absorbed into Ilmenau in 1994. Its 1921 notgeld issue was purely a local stop-gap — the postwar coin shortage hit small industrial communities hard, and municipalities like this one printed their own fractional scrip rather than wait for the Reichsbank to catch up with demand.

The DeNG reference places this as the seventh variant in a seven-type series, suggesting the municipality issued across multiple design runs. Small-town Thuringian notgeld of this period was frequently printed by regional job shops in Erfurt or Jena, often on whatever paper stock was available.
