Kamenz was a Saxon administrative district — Amtshauptmannschaft was the intermediate tier between municipality and state — and this 50 Pfennig note is a product of the Notgeld wave that flooded Germany between 1919 and 1922, when chronic small-coin shortages forced local authorities to issue their own emergency scrip. Flemming & Wiskott in Glogau were prolific printers of this material, supplying dozens of Saxon and Silesian issuers during the period.
Glogau itself became Głogów after the postwar territorial reorganization gave Silesia to Poland — a reminder that the infrastructure behind much of eastern German Notgeld printing vanished entirely within a generation of the notes being issued.
