| Obverse description | The obverse is framed by a bold geometric border of interlocking circles and grid squares with repeated numeral '50' underprints at the lateral margins. At the top, the denomination is rendered in Gothic blackletter script as 'Fünfzig 50 Pfennig', below which the validity inscription 'Gültig bis 30. Sept. 1921' and issuing authority 'DER MAGISTRAT' appear above two manuscript signatures. Eilenburg's 1921 Pfennig notgeld belongs to the second wave of German municipal emergency currency — issued not from genuine coin shortages, as in 1914–1918, but because small-denomination Reichsbank notes were being hoarded ahead of anticipated inflation. Hundreds of German towns issued similar scrip that year, many contracting the same regional printers, which is why design quality varies so dramatically across the series.
