Obverse description Ochre-toned letterpress vignette centred on an armoured knight in full plate armour standing beneath a stone archway set within a brick gate facade, holding a shield inscribed with a Low German verse. Two oval cartouches at left and right each bear the denomination '50 Pfg.' in bold gothic numerals. The city name 'Stadt Herne i/Westf.' and year '1921' appear in gothic script across the upper register, flanking a crowned cherub cartouche.
