| Obverse description | Black letterpress on white paper within a decorative border of cross-patterned ornamental rules, the note is divided into three panels: the left carries the denomination '50 Pfg.' and the issuing authority in Gothic script, the central panel presents a heraldic coat of arms surmounted by a crowned mitre within baroque cartouche scrollwork, and the right panel bears the date of issue, a circular municipal seal inscribed 'Gemeinde Herstelle Krs. Herstelle is a small village on the Weser River in what is now North Rhine-Westphalia, and its appearance as a Notgeld issuer in 1921 is entirely typical of the period — the postwar coin shortage forced even the smallest German municipalities to print their own fractional emergency currency. By 1921 the inflation that would become catastrophic by 1923 was already eroding purchasing power steadily, and 50 Pfennig notes were among the most practically necessary denominations in daily local trade.
Herstelle Notgeld issues are not among the extensively documented series; collector demand for this specific municipality has remained modest.
