Stellau is a village in Holstein that in 1921 had a population measured in the hundreds. Like thousands of other German municipalities during the postwar Kleingeldersatz crisis, it issued its own emergency small change — Notgeld — to compensate for the near-total disappearance of coins from circulation. The Steinburg district produced a notable volume of such issues, many printed by regional printers working under heavy demand and short deadlines.

Stellau's series is among the more obscure district issues, and collector interest tends to be narrow — parish-level Notgeld from villages this small survives mainly through the organized collecting campaigns that were already underway by 1921, not through genuine circulation wear.
