Mücheln is a small town in Saxony-Anhalt, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1921, it issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — to compensate for the chronic shortage of small-denomination Reichsbank coinage that had been melting away into hoarding and export since the war. Adolf Forker was a Leipzig commercial printer who handled a significant volume of municipal Notgeld commissions during this period, producing work that ranged from purely functional to deliberately decorative.
Werner Collenbey's involvement as designer suggests this issue falls toward the more considered end of that spectrum — Collenbey contributed designs to multiple Notgeld series in the early 1920s.
