Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse is divided into three vertical panels printed in blue, black, and ochre. The left and right panels carry the issuing authority text and denomination in bold block letters, with a serial number in the lower left. The central oval vignette, framed by an ornate guilloche border, presents a full-length figure of a miner in working attire striding forward against a radiating background, with mine shaft structures and industrial buildings visible below. The motto "GLÜCK AUF!" arcs around the oval on both sides, and a facsimile signature of the municipal chairman appears on the right panel above the date 30. September 1921.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse is laid out in a tripartite composition in blue, black, and ochre. Flanking figures of miners in full uniform, each carrying a lamp and pick, occupy the left and right vertical side panels beneath crossed-hammer cartouches. The broad central vignette presents a detailed letterpress view of the Bergmannssiedlung "Glückauf" workers' housing estate, a multi-storey residential complex set among tall trees with a descriptive caption below identifying the architect and the 114-dwelling project. The header reads "HOHNDORFER NOTGELD" in bold block capitals, and the denomination "50" appears in large numerals at each lower corner.

Opmerkingen

Hohndorf is a small industrial village in Saxony, historically tied to coal mining and textile production. This note is part of the vast wave of German municipal Notgeld issued between 1919 and 1922, when postwar inflation and chronic small-coin shortages forced even minor communes to print their own emergency currency. Ratsdruckerei R. Dulce in nearby Glauchau supplied many such issues to the surrounding Erzgebirge and western Saxon municipalities — a regional printer filling a regional vacuum.

Hohndorf's issues are not scarce, but they attract collectors of Saxon Notgeld series rather than general circulation interest.
