Obverse description Central vignette presents a woodcut-style panoramic view of the Kaliwerk Volkenroda potash mining works, with industrial buildings, a headframe, smokestacks, and rail tracks rendered in black on an unprinted ground. The header bears the Gothic-script legend "Notgeld von Menteroda" within a ruled border, with the denomination numeral "50" in green at lower left and "Pf" at lower right. The lower panel contains the validity clause, issuer name "Menteroda" with date "d. 1. 11. 1921", and a manuscript signature of the Gemeindevorstand; printer and designer credits appear in small type at the bottom margin.

Reverse description The central vignette carries a green-ground panel with the crossed hammer-and-pick mining emblem within a laurel wreath and the traditional miners' salutation "Glück auf!" in bold Gothic script below. Flanking the central device on a dark ground are two full-length woodcut figures of miners in traditional Knappe dress, facing inward. The upper border inscription reads "1906 – Bergbau – 1906" in green, and the lower border contains a two-line verse in Gothic type, with the denomination numeral "50" repeated in green at each lower corner.
