Comments

Preetz is a small town in Schleswig-Holstein, and this 50 Pfennig note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept German municipalities between 1920 and 1922 — a period when coin shortages were severe enough that hundreds of towns printed their own emergency small-change paper. The Stadt Preetz series was designed locally by A. Götting, which was not unusual; many Notgeld issues were drawn by local artists, schoolteachers, or commercial illustrators rather than professional engravers, giving the series a distinctly regional character that national currency never had.

The reference number places this within the sixth variant of the 1071.3 series, suggesting the town issued multiple runs.
