Guilloche-pattern side borders frame the composition, while a Gothic-script Latin inscription runs along the inner border on all four sides. | 备注 |
Gernrode's 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the second wave of German municipal emergency currency — the so-called "Serienscheine" phase, when towns increasingly used small-denomination scrip as a collector vehicle rather than a strict necessity. By 1921, the acute coin shortage of 1918–1920 had eased somewhat, but the market for decorative Notgeld had taken on its own momentum, and municipalities issued well beyond local circulation needs, selling sets directly to collectors at face value plus postage.
Louis Koch of Halberstadt was a regional commercial printer who handled Notgeld contracts for several Harz-area municipalities during this period. Not a specialist security printer — which is why these notes were never intended to be forgery-resistant.
