| Obverse description | Central vignette within a diamond-shaped frame shows the Kickelhahn observation tower (erected 1855, south of Ilmenau) set among dense conifer forest, rendered in fine letterpress line engraving. Denomination numerals "50" in red appear in ornamental cartouches at left and right, with the word "Pfennig" below each. A repeating underprint pattern of triangles and denomination numerals covers the entire field, printed in pale ochre. The issuer's title "Notgeld der Stadt Ilmenau" runs across the top in Gothic script, with the date and Oberbürgermeister's facsimile signature at lower right. |
