Obverse description Printed in red and brown on cream paper, the obverse carries a large Gothic-script heading 'Notgeld der Stadt Todtnau' across the upper portion, flanked at upper right by a circular denomination vignette inscribed '50 Pf'. At upper left, a framed heraldic vignette shows a standing medieval figure with keys, set within an ornamental border. The central yellow-tinted panel bears a four-line dialect verse attributed to Johann Peter Hebel, above the issuance line 'Todtnau i. Wiesental, 31. Okt. 1921 — Der Bürgermeister' with a facsimile signature, and two further circular '50 Pf' denomination roundels in the lower corners. A validity notice at the foot reads 'Dieser Schein verliert am 1. März 1922 seine Gültigkeit'.
