| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by a large ornate scroll vignette at centre-right bearing a facsimile of a historical document, accompanied by an oval portrait medallion at lower left of Landgraf Phillipp von Butzbach rendered in fine letterpress line engraving. A red wax-seal impression with a town church vignette appears at lower centre. The denomination '50 Pfennig' is printed in bold Gothic type at right, with text noting the 600th anniversary of the town charter (1321–1921). The note is dated 'Butzbach, den 6.
