Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a large ornate scroll vignette at centre-right bearing a facsimile of a historical document, accompanied by an oval portrait medallion at lower left of Landgraf Phillipp von Butzbach rendered in fine letterpress line engraving. A red wax-seal impression with a town church vignette appears at lower centre. The denomination '50 Pfennig' is printed in bold Gothic type at right, with text noting the 600th anniversary of the town charter (1321–1921). The note is dated 'Butzbach, den 6. Mai 1921' and bears the facsimile signature of the Bürgermeister at lower right, with the printer's imprint 'Scharfes Druckereien, Wetzlar' at the bottom edge.

Reverse description The reverse carries a central vignette of the Butzbach Marktplatz (market square) rendered in detailed letterpress line work, showing the historic town centre with multi-storey half-timbered and gabled buildings. The denomination title 'Fünfzig Pfennig' appears in large red Gothic script across the top panel, with '20. Jahrhundert' inscribed below it. Decorative side panels contain agricultural motifs — fruit clusters at upper left and wheat ears at upper right — alongside vignettes of a steam locomotive at lower left and a heraldic fountain cartouche at lower right, all framed by geometric and guilloche borders. The serial number in the format 'No A 26814' is printed at the bottom centre within an oval cartouche.
