The vignette illustrates an elderly shepherd stooped over in a woodland landscape of oak and fir trees, examining an object in his hand — a scene drawn from a local Thuringian legend. A Gothic blackletter inscription curves around the oval border reading 'Was der Schäfer im Innern des Berges fand, verwandelt sich draußen in wertlosen Tand', and the series number '5' appears at left and right centre within the outer frame. |
